ECLIPSE AVIATION FACILITY SERVICE CENTER

Eclipse Aviation is a business venture that produces economical business jets, known as Very Light Jets (VLJ).  The demand for Eclipse Aircraft in Florida led Eclipse Aviation to choose Gainesville Regional Airport as the first of several regional sites for Eclipse Aviation Factory Service Centers.  The Gainesville-Alachua County Regional Airport Authority agreed to develop, construct, and lease such a facility to Eclipse Aviation by early 2007, and this aggressive schedule was achieved through a design-build delivery process.  RW Armstrong was selected as the Engineer to facilitate this process.  Responsibilities included preliminary design, design-build package development, and design-build phase oversight/administration.
CONTINENTAL AIRLINES RENOVATION &
EXPANSION

Continental Airlines (now United Airlines) utilizes Hangar #3 for maintenance of their B-737 fleet of aircraft.  The airline is undergoing a change in their fleet of Boeing 737s from the older 300/500 series aircraft to the "next gen" 700/800/900 series - all with winglets.  These next generation 737s have larger wingspans, longer fuselages and have higher tail heights.  Because of this Continental needed an additional hangar at their Cleveland maintenance hub that could house them.

The solution proposed by RW Armstrong Team was to modify the existing hangar rather than construct a new one.  This resulted in signifcant cost savings to Continental while meeting all the objectives of the project.
The original hangar was constructed in 1968 and its systems were out of date.  No fire suppression existed and the electrical wiring was in poor condition.  There were no plumbing facilities.  RW Armstrong and the design team worked within the confines of the existing facility, as well as the site, to deliver and expanded footprint, updated systems and a revitalized site.
