PRESIDENTIAL HELICOPTOR HANGAR AND
AIRFIELD IMPROVEMENTS

The new 63,880 square feet hangar facility will house the Presidential Helicopter Squadron HMX-1.  The project provides clear-span hangar space, adjacent multi-story maintenance shops, as well as administrative, medical, dental, storage and support areas.  The project also includes 540,000 square feet of new airfield taxiway and apron pavement.  The parking apron accomodates adequate space for eight HMX-1 aircraft and two transient aircraft.
C-130 MAINTENANCE HANGAR

RW Armstrong provided design and consulting services for development of a build-to-suit facility consisting of a mixed use helicopter and fixed wing Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hangar for WestWind Technologies, Inc. at the Huntsville International Airport.  The hangar accommodates two C-130 aircraft or various configurations of helicopters being serviced by WestWind in their support of military or private industry maintenance programs.
RW Armstrong provided this project as part of a Turn Key development on the airfield of Huntsville International Airport.  The approach to the project provided a complete solution to finance, design, construction, and delivering a build-to-suit hangar for WestWind occupancy on an accelerated timeline of 10 months from notice to proceed.

The company led th conceptual design phase and worked closely with WestWind to design a customized facility based on WestWind's exact needs while meeting the Authority's building develop standards.  During the conceptual design phase RW Armstrong worked closely with the Airport in order to comply with their current master plan for their International Intermodial Center/Jetplex Industrial Complex.  This involved final facility siting, providing airside access taxiways and parking aprons, and accomodating future expansion of the MRO facilities and Cargo locations planned by the Authority.
